WHAT AUTISM MOMS REALLY WANT ON MOTHER'S DAY ??
On Mother's Day, I stumbled upon an advertisement for an online gift portal showcasing uncountable gift options for moms ….Mementos, cushions, best mom trophies, and whatnot.
It seems that to the advertisement world, all we want is slippers, a cashmere sweater, a digital diary, a hair spa voucher, books, or maybe breakfast in bed to remind us how special we are on the eve of Mother's Day.
I don't want any of these ( though I am strongly inclined towards books πππ), and I strongly suspect most of you don't either.
So what exactly do we want?
We want our children to be happy, genuinely happy..
we want to watch them grow, learn and get new wings
We want schools not to CLOSE GATES for our kids in the name of lack of resources and Infrastructure.
We want that no family should ever have to make a choice between Paying bills and undergoing therapies for our child.
We want some Insurance providers to actually come up with an insurance policy that will cover therapies for our kids.
We want political parties to include Autism and other disabilities, as a mandatory feature in their election manifestos.
we want the SPEECH THERAPIST to help get more words out.
We want the OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST to help us help our children.
We want society to stop sympathizing with our kids.
We want people to stop lowering their expectations for our kids.
We want our kids to find love, dignity and to know the real joy.
We want our children to find meaningful work that they like doing and can live with a purpose.
Because these are the things I have wanted at one time or another. Because we deserve to be able to be our best selves too.
We are the mother of all battles to help our children.
So to all my fellow autism moms, a big hug to you today.
I hope you get what you want on your next Mother's Day.
For this Mother's Day.....
I had my lovely Boy and lots of snow..π
